FIRST DUE CHIMNEY FIRE IN THE 32-2

Sunday, January 15, 2012  Around noon the Progress & Edgemont Volunteers were dispatched for a chimney fire on Andrea Ave. The Wagon (Capt. Wolford) and Chief 32-2 (Parsons) responded on dispatch and were advised by communications the homeowner was reporting fire from his chimney. Chief 2 arrived with nothing showing and the Wagon arrived with its own hydrant and ran a crosslay. Capt. 32 assumed division one and reported fire in the chimney. The Tower Ladder (Capt. Lawrence) arrived  and interior crew checked all divisions for extension, laddered the residence, and went to the roof. Crews removed the fire from and firebox and chained the chimney. After the lines and Ladders were picked up the Company went ready in about an hour.

     



 

SECOND FIRST DUE BOX ALARM IN TWO DAYS RESULTS IN STILL NO WORK

Friday, January 13, 2012  This nice crisp morning the Volunteers of Progress were once again dispatched to a reported Box Alarm in the first due. The Wagon (Capt. Strausbaugh) and Duty Officer (Capt. Lawrence) responded on dispatch and were advised of a kitchen fire. Units arrived on Gateway Ct. with nothing showing from a two story duplex, their own hydrant, and ran a line to the door. Capt. 32-2 had the investigation and quickly held Progress after finding a fire out in the kitchen. The Tower Ladder (Capt. Wolford) arrived and provided PPV for the heavily smoke filled residence. Crews were out for an hour before going ready.

     



 

FIRST DUE CHIMNEY FIRE UPGRADED TO HOUSE FIRE

Friday, January 13, 2012  At 1134 hours a Two and One (E32-1, T32, E31) Chimney Fire box was dispatched at 71 North 34 street for reported heavy smoke from the chimney. When the Wagon (Capt. Strausbaugh) marked up communications advised they were filling the box for a reported basement fire. The Wagon dropped a line from 34th a Walnut, arrived with nothing showing, and Capt. 32-2 assumed Command. The Tower (Capt. Wolford) arrived laddered the building, investigated, and Capt. 32 had investigation. Crews found a furnace that had blew up due to the chimney collapsing into the unit in the basement. Crews picked up their lines and ladders and went in service with no PPV needed.

     



 

FARM SHOW TRAFFIC BRINGS CARS TOGETHER ON THE CAPITAL BELTWAY

Thursday, January 12, 2012  This morning an 84 box was struck for a reported MVC w/ Injuries on the beltway. Rescue-Engine 32, Wagon 32-1, and Chief 32-2 responded on the run. Chief 2 arrived and found 5 vehicles involved with one injury. Crews assisted EMS with Pt. care before going ready.

     



 

TWO NEW ENGINE COMPANY FIREMEN PROMOTED

Monday, January 9, 2012  Tonight at the monthly company meeting Probationary Firemen Brian Harned and Jimmy Fenstermacher were promoted to Engine Company Riders (Black Insert). After 6 months of company and national level training the two probies made their requirements to promote. Each Probie had to demonstrate a "Probie Book" of skills four pages long to their officers as well as obtaining  the Progress Fire Co. minimum training requirements of Firefighter I, Haz-Mat Operations, and CPR/AED. Congrats!

   


 

LADDERS CLASS PART II

Tuesday, January 3, 2012  Tonight the Firemen of Progress headed to HACC to conduct the second part of Ladders Class. The Probies were trained on extension ladders, roof ladder evaluations, and emptying the ladder bed. The new jacks got alot of good hands on ladder work in the cold temperatures.

     



 

FIRST RUN OF 2012

Monday, January 2, 2012  The first run for the Big House this year was to no surprise a FIRE ALARM. Units found a malfuctioning alarm system and Chief 32-2 placed the box in service. First run for 2011 was a box alarm at the Wakefield Rd. Apartments. Food on the stove was found and 1 and 1 were held for PPV.

   


 

2011 INITIAL REPORT

Monday, January 2, 2012  For the Year of  2011 the Company ran 899 calls. Apparatus totals Engine 32 w/ 213, Engine 321 w/ 343, Tower w/ 438 and the Squad w/ 196. Busiest Days of the Week was Saturday w/158 and the Busiest Shift was Second w/384. Average Turnout per Incident was 12.  Busiest Type of Call was Fire Alarms. Top 5 Personnel are: Firefighter  Z. Miller 493, Firefighter N. Willcox 492, Assistant Chief R. Parsons 484, Firefighter G. Trahan 465 Firefighter J. Kibe 435.

Busiest Days of the Week was Thursday w/ 19 and the Busiest Shift was Second w/ 30. Average Turnout per Incident was 12. Busiest Type of Call was Fire Alarms. Top 5 Personnel are: Firefighter M.
